Dear Friend,
If you’re here, I’m going to guess you’re carrying a lot.
Maybe you’re raising an autistic teen and the calendar feels like it’s moving too fast. Maybe you’ve been holding everything together for years, but lately you can’t shake the question that keeps showing up in the quiet moments: What happens after high school? Or maybe you’re watching your child get older and realizing nobody handed you a clear roadmap for the teen years, adulthood, work, life skills, independence, or what support is even supposed to look like.
I want you to know something right away: you’re not behind, you’re not failing, and you’re not alone.
I’m Susan Tatem, Founder and CEO of Bright Path 4 Autism, and I’m also a mom to an autistic daughter who changed my life. I built this business because I’ve lived the overwhelm, the fear, the late-night research spirals, the paperwork piles, the meetings that left me drained, and the moments when I wondered if I was the only one who saw the cliff coming.
I wasn’t.
If you’re ready to stop guessing and start building a clear path forward, I’d love to walk with you.
You don’t have to do this alone.
How I got here
My professional background is in healthcare. I’ve worked in home health physical therapy for almost 30 years as a physical therapist assistant. My brain naturally thinks in steps, function, independence, and what real life looks like inside a home, not just on paper. That matters more than people realize.
But the real “training” that shaped me happened at my kitchen table.
I was a single mom, and I homeschooled my daughter for years after it became clear that the school system wasn’t seeing her clearly or supporting her well. I learned how to advocate because I didn’t have a choice. I learned how to keep going because she needed me to. I learned how to push back when something wasn’t right, even when my voice shook.
There was a moment in an IEP meeting where I had to draw a line in the sand. I said, “You can’t do anything without my signature, and until it says what I want, I will not sign it.” That wasn’t me being difficult. That was me being a mother who finally understood I was the safeguard.
And even with everything I did, even with all the years of effort, what I discovered later still stunned me.
Once autistic teens graduate, the supports drop off fast. Families are left standing there with a diploma in one hand and fear in the other, trying to figure out the next step with no map, no guide, and no one who really understands what adulthood needs to look like for their child.
That gap is where Bright Path 4 Autism was born.
Why Bright Path 4 Autism exists
I created Bright Path 4 Autism for parents who want more than survival mode.
Parents who don’t want to look up five years from now and realize time slipped by while everyone was just trying to “get through school.”
Parents who want a plan that includes real life, not just services.
Parents who want to help their autistic teen build skills for adulthood, with dignity, support, and a future that actually fits who they are.
At Bright Path, we believe planning for adulthood shouldn’t start at graduation. It should start now, step by step, in a way that’s doable and not overwhelming.
And we hold tight to our mission pillars, because they’re not just catchy words to me. They’re how I live and how I serve:
- Educate: so you understand what matters, what’s realistic, and what you can do next.
- Empower: so you stop second-guessing yourself and start leading with confidence.
- Elevate: so your child’s future becomes bigger than fear, and your family rises into a life that feels steady and hopeful.
What makes this different
There are plenty of resources out there. There are checklists, articles, and endless opinions. But what most families need is someone who can help them take all that information and turn it into a clear path.
That’s where I come in.
I’m not just teaching concepts. I’m helping you build a plan you can actually follow. I’m helping you focus on what matters most, in the season you’re in. I’m helping you move from “I don’t even know where to start” to “Okay, we have a direction.”
And I’m going to be honest, I bring my whole heart into this work.
My faith is part of who I am. I’m guided by honesty, integrity, and compassion. I’m also deeply respectful that families come from all backgrounds, and you don’t have to share my faith to feel supported here. What matters is that you want your child to thrive, and you want to feel steady again.
Who we serve
Bright Path 4 Autism supports families of autistic youth ages 12 and up, plus young adults, especially in the stretch where life starts getting real and nobody’s explaining the next steps.
This is for you if you’re asking questions like:
- How do I help my child build real independence, not just academic progress?
- What life skills should we be working on now?
- How do we plan for work, daily living, and adulthood at a pace that makes sense?
- What supports should we pursue, and how do we keep from missing the window?
- How do I stop feeling like I’m carrying all of this alone?
You don’t need a perfect plan to start. You just need a next step.
What you can expect from me
You can expect me to be warm, honest, and practical.
I’m going to encourage you, but I’m also going to tell you the truth when it matters. I’m going to help you create a plan that fits your real life, not an ideal version of life that exists only on paper.
I’ll help you focus, prioritize, and move forward without the panic.
Because I know what it’s like to love your child fiercely and still feel scared about the future.
And I also know this: progress is possible. Independence is possible. A meaningful adult life is possible. It just takes a clear path and the right support.
Because Every Piece Matters
That’s not just a tagline to me. It’s what I believe.
Your child isn’t a problem to solve. Your child is a whole person with strengths, needs, gifts, and a future worth planning for.
And you, the parent, matter too. Your peace matters. Your health matters. Your ability to breathe again matters.
With love and hope,
Susan Tatem
