My Story

My Story

I help parents of autistic teens and young adults create a clear path to adulthood.

I built Bright Path 4 Autism because too many families are expected to figure out the transition years on their own. My work brings practical guidance, compassionate support, and clear next steps so families can move forward with more confidence and less overwhelm.

Why This Work Is Personal To Me

Why This Work Is Personal To Me

I’m Susan Tatem, founder of Bright Path 4 Autism, and I’m also a mom to an autistic adult daughter who changed my life.

Like so many parents, I’ve lived the questions that keep families up at night. What happens after high school? How do we prepare for real adulthood, not just the next school meeting? What support is actually available, and how do we make wise decisions without feeling lost?

I know what it feels like to carry the emotional weight, the responsibility, and the pressure of trying to plan well for a child’s future. That lived experience is part of what shaped this business.

Why Families Trust Me

Alongside my personal journey, I bring 30 years in healthcare and a lifelong commitment to advocacy, planning, and practical problem-solving.

I created Bright Path 4 Autism to offer something steadier than scattered advice or last-minute panic. Families need support that is grounded, actionable, and focused on what comes next.

My work also includes writing, speaking, media features, podcast and publishing projects that amplify the voices, needs, and lived experiences of the autism community.

What Makes Bright Path Different

I believe adulthood planning should not start at graduation. It starts now, step by step, with real-life preparation.

That belief is the foundation of the Bright Path Clear Next Steps Method.

Instead of overwhelming families with too much information at once, I help parents focus on the next right steps in the areas that matter most: planning, advocacy, life skills, support systems, independence, and readiness for adulthood.

This work is not about perfection. It is about building a path forward with clarity, intention, and steady support.

Who I Serve

I work with parents of autistic teens and young adults who are ready to stop spinning in uncertainty and start moving forward with a plan.

Some families come to me because they feel behind.
Some come because they are overwhelmed by decisions.
Some come because no one has clearly explained how to prepare for life beyond school.

Wherever you are starting, you do not have to figure it all out alone.

How We Can Start

A good plan does not have to begin with everything. It can begin with one focused conversation and a clear next step.

That is why I offer a Strategy Session to help you get clear on what matters most right now, identify your next priorities, and move forward with more confidence and less overwhelm.

Because Every Piece Matters

Your child is not a problem to solve. Your child is a whole person with strengths, needs, potential, and a future worth preparing for.

And you matter too.

Your peace matters.
Your clarity matters.
Your ability to move forward with confidence matters.

That is why Bright Path 4 Autism exists.

With love and hope,
